Frequently Asked Questions
Some of you may be wondering why we are doing this ministry. So, I want to share with you very personally why I feel called to do this kind of work. First and foremost, I feel called of God to do this work of writing books for the Maasai in their heart language. I feel God has put me in the place I am now for such a time as this. He has given me the strength to learn the language enough to write in it. He has given me the opportunity to spend 15 years of full time on site ministry with the Maasai (from 1987 to 2002). He has given me the desire, inspiration, vision and determination to continue this ministry.
Also, I feel that all my years of Bible study and experience are helping me now in writing these books. I don’t think I could have done what I am doing now 15 years ago. Now is the time for me to do this.
In addition, when I think of how few books the Maasai have and how many we have in America, I am convicted of how much we need to spread this blessing to the Maasai.
In an email we recently received from Cosmos Lemein he shared how a Christian man encouraged us to continue this ministry because he had never seen anyone else do this kind of work in the history of the Maasai.
I also am seeing now more than ever how God is extending our ministry and influence to hundreds, and potentially thousands, more people than before. These books have gone into churches and schools that I would probably would never have the opportunity to visit personally.
I am also excited that my wife Pam and I can work together in this ministry. She does a great job on the financial books, giving feed back to me, encouraging me, and going on the trips with me when we go in the summers.
It is also exciting to me to see how Angela our daughter loves our work. She helps me with the youth books and loves going to Kenya in the summers. She also helps with youth seminars when we go in the summer.
God has given me a vision of how this ministry can be established so that it will potentially go on into the future for many years to come. I want to help generations and generations of Maasai to come to Christ and grow in their faith and knowledge of God’s word.
Another reason I am doing this is because I love the Maasai people and I am excited about partnering with them as our team in this work. I feel that this is on the cutting edge of where missions is going so I am excited to be launching out and trying this. Before, our teammates were primarily missionaries from America but now the Maasai are our teammates. I want this team to gradually grow so that we can continue to work together to provide Christian materials to more and more people. I also hope that we can one day send out missionaries to other places.
Finally, this ministry is exciting to me because it gives us a way to continue our relationship with our Maasai family in Kenya whom we have come to love and care about deeply. In Africa they value relationships highly and so we want to show them that we also value our relationship highly with them.
